Multiple Teams · Blue Flame Track at Liberty vs Berea, Cresent, Easley and Liberty

Last night, the PHS track and field team traveled to Liberty for a meet with Easley, Liberty, Crescent and Berea.  The girls finished first with an overall score of 144 and almost double up second place, who had 75 points.  The boys finished second with 96 points, just 2 points behind first place.  Proud is not a good enough word for how this coach feels about our team.  As I stood and watched as much as I could, it just seemed that over and over again Pickens athletes stood out and dominated events.  As an example, in the boys 3200, Adam Ellis, a 7th grader built almost a 400m lead on second place while the girls’ 4x800m team won with a 250 meter lead.  As young as we are and still successful is a testament of how hard our athletes have worked together and how well they have begun to come together as a team.

After the meet last night Coach Furr stated, “Our challenge before the meet last night was simple, go out and give us everything you have in all of your events. Our kids exemplified that in every possible way. As their head coach I could not be more proud.”

He went on to say, “These teams are young, hardworking, and loaded with talent. I believe the best is yet to come. I am always proud to be a Blue Flame and tonight our kids represented that flame to the best of their abilities.”

This is the first official track and field meet win for the Lady Blue Flame this season and the highest overall finish for the boys’ team as well.

Pickens will now turn their attention to Thursday and compete in the Pickens County Championships at Liberty High School.
