Last night, the Blue Flame Cross Country teams competed on their home course for the final time this season on Senior Night. Seniors Amber Saitta, Angel Howell, Stefani Gillespie, Brooke Crawford, Dylan Bray, Jackson Masters, Levi Shelton, David White, Griffin Mason, and Cody Massey were all recognized.
In the Girls Varsity Race, Senior Amber Saitta broke the previous school record of 19:59 by 22 seconds with a time of 19:37 and a 2nd place overall finish. 7th grader Grace Newman rounded out the top 10 with a time of 21:31. Junior Holly Newman ran her personal best time of 24:24, and Senior Angel Howell ran her season best time of 24:29.
In the Boys Varsity Race, Senior Dylan Bray broke his previous personal best time running the 5K course in 17:39. Senior Jackson Masters ran an 18:43, 7th grader Chase Ashe ran his personal best time of 18:58, freshman Landon Howell ran his personal best time of 19:11, and 8th grader Parker Hendricks ran his personal best time of 19:24. 7th grader Liam McCall also ran his personal best time of 19:40 as well.
After the race, Coach Furr said, “What an amazing night! Our kids continue to amaze me with their hard work and effort every day during our practices and our races.” He also went on to say, “It is a very special day for Miss Saitta. To break the previously held school record is such an accomplishment, and I am very proud of her, and the other 10 runners on our team that ran a personal best time tonight.”
The Blue Flame will be back in action this Saturday morning at the Fall Classic hosted by Hillcrest High School.
