Multiple Teams · Blue Flame Cross Country Competes Well at Wren


Last night, the Pickens Cross Country teams were at it again, this time running in a weekday meet at Wren High School. In the Girls’ Varsity race, the Lady Blue Flame placed 3rd overall in  team scoring out of 9 teams. Senior Amber Saitta finished 2nd place overall in the race with a time of 20:40. Freshman Juiliana Hernandez, Junior Holly Newman, and 8th grader Campbell Sherwood all ran season best times of 24:09, 24:30, and 24:54 respectively.

 

In the Boys’ Varsity race, the Blue Flame placed 3rd overall in the team scoring out of 9 teams. The Blue Flame had their top 5 boys all finish within the top 30 in the race with times of 18:46, 19:00, 19:23, 19:47, and 19:50. These runners were Dylan Bray, Jackson Masters, Matthew Mitchell, Chase Ashe, and Landon Howell.

 

After the race Coach Furr stated, “Another race where our kids really competed well. To finish top 3 in team scoring for both races is really an accomplishment. We also had 9-10 kids run their personal best time last night.”

 

The Blue Flame will host their final home meet of the season Tuesday, October 6th “Senior Night” at Pickens High School.
