Friday night the Blue Flame Cross Country teams were at it again as they competed in the GTC Classic at Hillcrest High School hosted by Southside High. In the Boys’ Race, senior Dylan Bray ran a personal record of 18:01 and finished 11th place overall to pace the boys. Freshman Landon Howell and Seventh Grader Liam McCall also ran personal record times of 20:21 and 20:30 respectively. Three of the seven Blue Flame runners ran a personal record time on Friday night.
In the Girls’ Race, Senior Amber Saitta and Seventh Grader Grace Newman finished 3rd and 4th place overall and both ran personal record times of 20:08. Freshman Juiliana Hernandez ran a personal record time of 24:56 and Senior Stefani Gillespie also ran a personal record time, dropping her time by almost 3 minutes overall. Four of the seven Lady Blue Flame runners ran a personal record time on Friday night.
After the race, Coach Furr stated, “This was our second race of the season and all of our hard work is really starting to pay off with a lot of personal record times so early in the season. ” He also said, “I am really proud of our team and for their hard work, especially this early in the season.”
The Blue Flame will host their first home meet of the season on Tuesday night at Pickens High School beginning at 5:15 pm with the Girls’ Varsity Race.
