by Greg Lucas

The Wren High School boys and girls track teams took first-place honors among six area teams taking part March 10 in the Pre-Region Relays track meet held at Wren.

The order of finish among the six girls’ teams was: 1) Wren; 2) Palmetto; 3) Daniel; 4) Walhalla; 5) Pickens; and 6) Belton-Honea Path. For the boys, the order among the teams was: 1) Wren; 2) Walhalla; 3) Palmetto; 4) Belton-Honea Path; 5) Daniel; and 6) Pickens.

Pickens High School (PHS) Girls Head Track and Field Coach Daniel Furr was enthusiastic about the results.

“We have a very young, athletic, and hard-working group of Lady Blue Flame out for track and field this season,” Furr said. “Our saying is very simple right now: ‘Do better than you did last meet!’ The girls have really taken this saying to heart, and it was evident today at Wren.”

In the Girls 4×400 Relay, PHS finished in 2nd place with the four-person team of Kristen Smith, Amber Saitta, Hannah Campbell and Ivy Freeman.

In the Boys 4×800 Relay, PHS finished in 3rd place with the four-person team of Levi Shelton, Caleb Ridgeway, Noah Constance and Dylan Bray.

In the Boys 4×110 Shuttle Hurdle, PHS finished in 2nd place with the four-person team of Caleb Ridgeway, Gabriel Dillingham, Keaton Moore and Cedrix Scott.
