Several PHS student-athletes participated in a girls’ retreat at Pickens Elementary School today from 8:30-12:30. The theme of this year’s retreat was “SHINE.” Members of the PHS cheer, tennis, and volleyball teams helped facilitate small groups during today’s retreat. Mrs. Lori Durham, Instructional Coach at PES, asked our young ladies to share with 117 3rd-5th grade girls the importance of “S”ocial Skills, “H”ealth and Wellness, “I”nterest in Careers and Future Plans, “N”oticing the Noteworthy, and “E”veryone Counts. Sessions led by our students helped PES students explore all 5 topics. A boys’ retreat, “IGNITE,” was held today at PES as well. Several of our male student-athletes led sessions for this group and enjoyed building relationships with these young men. We are proud of our student-athletes and the impact they are making in our community!
We are especially thankful for Mrs. Lori Durham for including our student-athletes in this incredible service opportunity and community outreach. Thank you to Mrs. Donna Harden and to the staff of PES for your willingness to allow PHS students time with PES students. It is the hope of PHS that every student has the opportunity to shine his or her light in our community and ignite a passion for service in others.
Thank you for providing such a meaningful day for all of our students!
