Multiple Teams · Blue Flame Cross Country at Upper State


This past weekend the Pickens Cross Country teams ran in the 4A Upper State Meet at The Oasis Farm in Greenwood, SC hosted by Eastside High School and The Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. In the girls’ race, Amber Saitta qualified for the State Championship Meet in 4A next weekend in Camden, SC for the Lady Blue Flame with a time of 21:11 and a 27th overall finish. Respectively, Senior Olivia Wilson ran her personal best time of the season with a time of 23:38, Junior Angel Howell ran a PR of 23:53, beating her previous time by almost two minutes, 8th grader Beyla Carpenter and Sophomore Holly Newman rounded out the top 5 scores for the Lady Blue Flame with times of 24:24 and 24:28, also PRs of a little over a minute for both girls. After the race Coach Furr said, “I am so proud of our girls today, their competitive spirit continues to amaze me, and all their hard work this season.” He also stated, “With the girls we have returning next season the sky is the limit for the potential of this young team.”

 

In the boy’s race, Junior Dylan Bray paced the boys with a time of 18:30 and a 61st finish overall.  Respectively, Juniors Jackson Masters and Levi Shelton were also in the 18s with times of 18:49 and 18:53, a PR for Levi Shelton. Senior Keaton Moore and 9th grader Matthew Mitchell rounded out the top 5 scores for the Blue Flame with times of 19:14 and 19:24, which are PRs for both of these young men. Mitchell beat his previous PR by almost a minute.  This gave the Blue Flame an average overall time of 18:58 at this race.  After the race Coach Furr said, “I cannot really put into words how proud I am of our boys today.”  He also stated, “With the returners we have coming back next season there is no doubt in my mind that our goals and accomplishments will be raised and the potential of this team is limitless.”
