Multiple Teams · Blue Flame Cross Country Competes in the Region 1 4-A Championship Races


The Pickens Blue Flame Cross Country teams competed in the Region 1 4-A races tonight at Nettles Park in Clemson, SC hosted by Daniel High School.  In the girls’ race, Junior Amber Saitta led the way for the Lady Blue Flame with another personal record time of 21:45 and a 16th place overall finish.  Sophomore Maddalena Bernardelli finished 32nd overall for the Lady Blue Flame and ran a personal record time of 22:54. 7th grader Campbell Sherwood ran a personal record time of 24:53, Junior Angel Howell ran a personal record time of 25:05, and Sophomore Holly Newman ran a 25:13 to round out the scoring for the Lady Blue Flame.  In the JV girls’ race 8th grader Belya Carpenter shattered her personal record time by running a 25:05 and finishing in 14th place overall in the JV girls’ race. What an impressive season for these girls who saw their average times for the top 5 drop well over two to three minutes from the end of last season.  After the race Coach Furr said, “Our goal this season was simple, go out there and compete, train hard, and watch the seconds drop. I am so proud of my girl for their hard work and dedication this entire season.”

 

In the boys’ race, Junior Dylan Bray paced the Blue Flame with a 16th place overall finish and time of 18:19.  Juniors Jackson Masters and Levi Shelton finished 22nd and 23rd respectively with times of 18:53 and 19:00, a personal record time for Levi Shelton. Senior Keaton Moore ran a personal record time of 19:15 and freshman Matthew Mitchell ran a time of 20:11 to round out the scoring for the top 5 Blue Flame runners. In the JV boy’s race, Sophomore Hudson Salinas shattered his personal record time with a 21:53 finish and had a 15th place finish overall. 7th grader Henru Greyling ran a personal record time of 21:58 and had a 16th place finish overall. Freshman Austin Lanning had a 19th place overall finish with a personal record time of 22:23.  What an impressive season for these boys who saw their average times for the top 5 drop over 1 minute and 30 seconds from the end of last season.  16 student-athletes for PHS ran a personal record time at this race.  After the race Coach Furr said, “Our boys have had excellent work ethic all season long, and it is no surprise to me how much success they have been able to gain from this season. I couldn’t be more proud.”

 

Next up for the Blue Flame is the Upper State Qualifier at “The Oasis Farm of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home” in Greenwood, South Carolina on November 9th beginning at 11:15 am.
