Wren Home Meet October 15th, 2019
The Pickens Blue Flame competed in Wren’s final home meet of the season Tuesday afternoon. In the girls’ race, Junior Amber Saitta led the Lady Blue Flame with an 11th place finish overall in the race and a time of 22:38, which is a personal record for her in a 5K. Sophomore Holly Newman was the second Blue Flame runner to cross the finish line with a personal record of 25:11. 7th grader Campbell Sherwood finished third on the team with a time of 25:33 for the Lady Blue Flame while Sophomore Amber Clark and Junior Angel Howell both ran personal records to round out the Lady Blue Flame scoring with times of 25:38 and 25:41 respectively. Six of our Lady Blue Flame runners ran a personal record for the race. After the race Coach Furr said, “Our girls continue to push one another in practice every single day.” He also said, “It is no surprise to see our girls peaking at the right time of the season because of all their hard work and dedication to our program.” In the boys’ race, Junior Dylan Bray led the Blue Flame runners with a personal record time of 18:12 and a 15th place overall finish. Juniors Jackson Masters and Levi Shelton both ran personal record times of 18:47 and 19:30 respectively. Seniors Keaton Moore and Gabe Dillingham rounded out the Blue Flame scoring with times of 19:48 and 19:59 respectively. For the first time this season, the Blue Flame boys had their top 5 guys run under 20 minutes for a race. After the race Coach Furr said, “What a stepping stone for our team today.” He also stated, “One of our goals this summer was to have our top 5 guys all be under 20 minutes by the end of the season and here we are accomplishing our team goals.” Nine of the Blue Flame runners ran a personal record for the race. Up next for the Blue Flame Region 1-4A Championship Race next Wednesday October 23rd at Nettles Park in Clemson, South Carolina.
