Multiple Teams · Blue Flame Cross Country Meet Results 8-2-19


Yesterday afternoon the Pickens High School Cross Country teams competed in their last home meet of the season which started off with our Senior Recognition Ceremony. Congratulations to our seven senior runners: Atyona Lambright, Amelia Heichel, Olivia Wilson, Keaton Moore, Tyler Larkin, Gabe Dillingham, and Ethan Marley.  After the race Coach Furr said,”This senior class is second to none in their roles as leaders for our team, their performance in practice, and their team mindset.”

The girls’ race was very competitive, and 7th grader Campbell Sherwood was the first Blue Flame runner to cross the finish line with a time of 25:25, a PR for her, and a 14th place finish overall. 10th grader Maddalena Bernardelli finished 16th overall with a time of 25:41, also a PR for her, and Sophomores Holly Newman and Amber Clark both finished in the top 25 with PRs of 26:06 and 26:45 respectively.  8th grader Juiliana Hernandez finished 23rd overall with a PR time of 27:13.  The Lady Blue Flame had ten girls run a Personal Record time for the season.

In the boys’ race, Dylan Bray was the first Blue Flame runner to cross the finish line with a 5th place overall finish and a PR time of 18:25. Juniors Jackson Masters and Levi Shelton ran PR times of 19:27 and 19:39 and finished 14th and 16th place overall in the race. Senior Keaton Moore ran a PR time of 19:44 with a 17th place finish and freshman Matthew Mitchell ran a PR time of 20:32. After the race, Coach Furr said, “I am so proud of our kids today and their effort continues to amaze me.”  He went on to say, “Today is a special day for the future of our PHS Cross Country programs, and I cannot put into words how proud I am of our runners.”  The Blue Flame are back in action next week racing at Walhalla High School on Tuesday October 8th.
